And I wonder if the labels might actually be seriously prepared to drop DRM.. with various analysts claiming such is being considered, I have to wonder if that might actually be the case. Of course, that still leaves the MPAA and their similar fascination with DRM, especially wrt HD DVD and Blu-Ray, but it certainly would be cool to see an end to even relatively liberal schemes like FairPlay. DRM doesn't work - we see that on torrent sites everywhere.
So we wind up with the idiocy of paying customers lumbered with these restrictions, and the copiers able to do what they want with their files. At some point, that's surely got to occur to even the most obstinate executive, let alone the corollary that - as His Steveness notes - DRM is just a never-ending arms race, constantly needing to shore up the "defenses", all in order to maintain this crazy position.
