the only drive I've ever had crap out on me was maxtor and that was 3 months after I started using it, and it was only a 60gb hd but it was NEW in fall 04 (while I had 120 and 320gb drives under much heavier load from westerd digital and seagate, and they worked fine), getting the warranty replacement was a bitch, http://www.google.com/search?q=maxtor%20evil
Everything I've ever heard about maxtor is that they are crap, and they are the only company (other than dell 1 time) I have ever seen attempt to discount their drives *randomly* so that their ratio gb/dollars is greater than 4 to 1. EVERY other drive manufacturer thus far sticks to 3 to 1. Maxtor just got bought by seagate, and I hopehopehope they're liquidating maxtor and absorbing the assets in order to provide more of their quality of drives... seriously. At 400gb for 100$ sata 2 7200 rpm drive, I still turned them down.
