Today's show was weak. Poor Seth was energyless, and people's voices were all screwed up. We had techie troubles as well... row lights shutting down, extension cords dangling. Sound seemed to have problems with levels (or perhaps those were technical issues).

But what really, really annoyed (or, perhaps, pissed me off) today was Mr. Goldman's use of feedback to shut the actors up. That is fucking unacceptable. Feedback is not a tool for you to use to make people shut up. "It is at best, annoying, and at worst, damaging to both ears and equipment." [ source ]

Mmm, the question now is what to do about it. I'm tempted to yell down from the booth (or use the god mic) next time he does that... Of course, not saying his name, but targeted at sound in general. Maybe "SOUND GUYS, IF I HEAR FEEDBACK ONE MORE TIME, I'M GOING TO RIP YOUR BALLS OFF." Or maybe printing out a large, multipage poster that says "FEEDBACK IS BAD!". Something along the lines of the "SEXUAL HARASSMENT IS ALLOWED AND ENCOURAGED" poster in the booth (probably got the wording wrong, whatever.)

I hope his lack of energy wasn't due to the KMO, though I bet it was at least partly that... we didn't do as well as we'd hoped in that. Though I don't know the exact rankings yet, Blair beat us by a lot of points, and people were yelling out the answers chaotically, and his job as captain was stressful...

How would you use feedback to shut the actors up? Why would you need to shut them up?

Feedback = loud and highpitched and v. annoying.
Actors = noisy & not paying attention to Mr. Goldman because he stands at the back of the auditorium with the sound stuff.

Yeah, Goldman's evil use of feedback was quite assholic.
Use the god mic. Threaten castration.

I thought the show was pretty good. I didn't know how it was supposed to be, so I figured the whole tired and sickly thing was just because Seth was playing a mad genius struggling against himself etc etc. Then I hung out with him after and noticed the ailing, but it was too late and I'd already enjoyed the show.

The only fuckups I noticed were volume jumps and shaky spotlights and that preacher's static. Other than that, good, and not worth griping about.

Also, Barnwell implied that Goldman was justified.  AAAHHHHH.  If he does it again, I am going to bitch him out.  No fucking way I'm going to be in that much pain again.

Feh. I was watching, and yes, the actors weren't paying attention to Goldman. However, using feedback to get their attention is still not acceptable behavior for someone who has such nice equipment.

Sadly "castration" was too long, so I couldn't use that on the poster...

Now just to find the time to put it up. I'd rather not be seen by people, but... ::shrugs::

Open to suggestions on rewording it though.. just get back to me sometime before 1 or something..
