Being around technology makes us stupid. Or at least less efficient. Will agree with the latter, but the former... wtf?

...right.

I thought bittorrent required incoming connections... unless you have 73 peers on your university's net...

I'm at one of those un-firewall-ed labs right now, downloading merrily.

So, what's your summer status?

^^;; you're really desperate for friends on there, aren't you... you're like my friend when he got WoW. Although in his case, there was more begging to split the monthly fee.

But to answer your questions, I'll be home, and in control of my network. I dunno~ ^^; you've got great potential to use guilt to get me to play, if I let you pay for me though... heck, I'd _feel_ guilty if I didn't play.

Meh. Does the trial 7 days require a credit card?

grrr at you... you use the word desperate in that post and now I feel deranged... lol I mean I really think that you would probably have a good time on there... I've never really like RP style games, partly because I never had enough time to consecrate to them, and partly because they seemed too tedious... this game has this whole other aspect of creativism to it... Everything you see in the game was made by some user at some point... the game caretakers are users themselves...

From what I know of you you might have a good time in game...

I know I could/will make friends in game, but you know what for some reason, at this point in my life the friendships I make I want to transcend forms of communication... You I know mostly through LJ, and for awhile we've been coding and what not and bouncing ideas off each other... as if it was IMing... that's part of why I asked for your data... I'd been meaning to do it for awhile... same with my other friends... some are people I see at school and talk to on the phone, some at school and online, some online and on skype, some online and on the phone... soon some online and ingame...

One of the interesting things is that second life is 18 and over only... meaning there aren't gaggles of 1337 haXor AOLer 13-14 year olds playing... there is a little more culture in the game... Its more mature...

There are people in there making picture perfect models of people... one guy I talk to is finishing off his HL2 storm trooper suit...

Its complete with animations, the original radio commands, and the gravity gun! (working)

Others make fully featured amuzement parks, casinos, or anything... An examples of some of the games is here http://tinypirate.com/wiki/tiki-index.php the wiki is old though, so there have been many improvements... I found a euchre table, for example...

Yeah, the 7 day trial requires a credit card... if you want me to pay, I can do it via paypal to you, or I can do it directly, though that might complicate things if you want to later on expand your membership ;) assuming you like the game that much... I think I will be able to satisfy myself with the single 10 dollar fee until I'm certain that I can make the cost of land back in sales... lol if I'm profitable without land then I may not get any, and just keep writing scripts for objects...

Anyways, my main point is that though I can meet people in secondlife and make friends, I think it would be much more interesting to already know a person and basically start from nothing like them...

I've only played for a full day or so... (spread around my studying) so you should be able to catch up without a problem...

Just an idea... I need to get back to studying...

I don't know if I remembered to mention, but on IGE for example you can sell 5000 in game dollars for 20 real, and 25dollars is the purchase price... so you can make real money ingame... hell if you wait around long enough and do nothing... they will give you back the money you spent to buy the game... :) 50game$/week

sell to whom? And how?

look up IGE or the gaming open market... IGE buys 5000 for 20dollars and sells 5000 for 25... gamingopenmarket has a more stock-like method where the current price is about 4.20 (for today) for 1000, so slightly better to sell/buy on the gamingopenmarket right now http://www.gamingopenmarket.com/market.php?symbol=SLL

few games encourage sale of ingame property for real money... everything you make in game is your intellectual property

This is a special game because they took the opposite tack.

Hehe, sorry, should have picked a better word than "desperate". But you're still trying really badly ^^;; *coughflatterycough*

Yes, I do enjoy RP games, and I used to play MUDs, and going back would be interesting, if just for the joy of developing objects. However, I honestly don't think I'll have the tiiiime~

Mmmmwrrrah. If I get addicted to this and fail my finals, I'm blaming you, k? I'll start tomorrow (remind me), when I don't have anything due for a miniscule bit. Friday would probably be a better choice, but I won't keep you waiting.

Oh, and sorry for poofing off AIM like that~ Erm. Yeah. Getting back on.

Not sure about it, but I know Saturday night I watched a "friend" of mine divide 35 by 5 and come up with 7. This, btw, is a guy who is trying to get into the BUSINESS school here. It took him awhile and then I corrected him. I'm not so sure about anything else, but I'm convinced calculators aren't helping.

apparently she typoed - her friend came up with 4.

lmao what did you correct him to???

I must be as slow as your friend because when I divide 35 by 5 I get 7. And I'm an engineer.

LOL...he actually got 4, but the idea of 35/5 and getting anything BUT 7 is so foreign to me that I typo'ed 7 instead of 4.

You should have more seeds soon, and you're building up a lot of credit with peers with the U/D ratio. Shouldn't that increase your dl speed soon, unless you're school is restricting bandwidth?

Date: 2005-04-25 10:49 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ibneko.livejournal.com
Mmm, it didn't rise above 300 KB/s by the time I left the lab. And bandwidth (at least in the labs) aren't restricted - since they don't expect people to be able to jack in there.

I was uploading at a stable 2.5 MB/s sec though... and I've uploaded 'bout 4.40 GB over those two hours.

Eep! Is that the entire series? I'd love a copy of that, if you can get the files within spitting distance of a DVD writer. (I took to the series within the first two minutes of the first episode, but only managed to obtain up to about ep.20 or so, and in RealNasty format too. Still, that was pretty much my introduction to digital anime, and the distro fit about ten episodes onto a CD)

Date: 2005-04-26 05:56 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ibneko.livejournal.com
Mmm, I'm assuming it's complete, since that's a boxtorrent requirement.

The nearest DVD writer that's easily accessable is at home. Although I guess I could have my friend burn it, I'm not too sure I'll have all of it before the end of finals, unless I download agressively, but that's dangerous.

Yeah, I have those RealNasty format ones as well, I believe. Check boxtorrents if you want definite information on these, but if I recall they were HK dvd rips. With bad subs, in some places? ::shrugs::

Speaking of DVD burners, I'll need to find one once they a) release the DVD image here - for those of us who paid to get all Apple system updates, and b) CISCO fixes their VPN client so it works with 10.4. I've asked about a CD image (which would be much easier to burn, and more accessable), but the person I spoke to didn't know anything yet.
