'cause this seriously helped me today, with a friend of a friend, I'm posting it here, in the hopes that someone else caught in a similar situation will be able to use it as they need it.

Again.

http://www.metanoia.org/suicide/

The title of the page is Suicide: Read This First. And in nice large words in the top, "if you are thinking about suicide... read this first"

I had (have?) other resources as well, stuff bookmarked from years ago. Anyone else want to contribute links, or suggestions? Among one of the most useful things I think I've read, was to keep the person talking, and get their feelings out. But you need to actually listen to them. Not just nod and say yes. Or at least I think that was the suggestion. And I do believe there was something about getting them to say why they're considering suicide, first, then after the situation has calmed down a bit, get them to tell you what they're going to do next, and if necessary, move them towards a better path? I dunno. Or maybe that was just conversational suggestions. Emphasis on talking about them, not about the weather... you know.

Granted, that only works if they want to talk. But yeah. Vague ideas / notes for the future.

---

But yes, I think... I might have saved someone's life today. Finally, putting the Oath into action... certainly scared the fuck out of me for the first 10-15 minutes though. Pity this probably doesn't count as my Ordeal. Heh, whatever. Either all that, or the Hero (Red Pill Mix) from Superchic[k]s comes to mind.

I feel like I'm bragging. So I should stop. Or something. Anyhow, I think I'm going to bed. So tired.

And what the hell, I'm not wise. ^^;;; It's a bad thing to think I'm wise. Then you'll listen to me, and god knows what would happen if I do slip up. Now I know why no one smart runs for presidency.

The trouble, though, is the ones who really mean to carry the plan through often, as I understand it, do so without anyone really even knowing, until the discovery. *sigh* (Had a friend from work who chose that exit - very intelligent sort, from a large family with pretty much a history of MIT graduation, laid back, living in a mellow neighborhood of San Francisco.. it came as such a shock to everyone, though I suppose the dot com crash had taken its toll, not to mention the shape of the world, post-Bush)
