Yeah. Why isn't there one for Mac?

I mean, yes, it does take up precious desktop space, but seeing how you can resize it as you want, flatten it down to a floating bar on the desktop, or a fixed bar in the start-menu-bar thing, space isn't an issue. And having up-to-date news, stocks, system monitor, email, scratch pad, to-do list, weather, etc's nice.

I'm a bit iffy 'bout the indexing, so encryption has been turned on. No, it's not safe, 'cause, goodness knows, encryption can be broken, especially since there ain't no key we're putting in. So I'm turning it back off.

It's also interesting how it runs a webserver of sorts as a configuration method for things. Possible hacker-entry point?

Irony: I use my Google Desktop as faux-Spotlight, letting it float in the upper-right-hand corner and using find-as-you-type queries whenever I want to access something without digging through a bunch of folders.

Why not use widgets and/or konfabulator for the other stuff? ::<3 konfabulator::

Heh. Whereas, I find spotlight a waste of menu-bar space. I prefer QuickSilver. It's more powerful by far.

Hate widgets. They're not always there, and loading them takes time and stuff. They're just eyecandy, really. Maybe if they didn't take up so much space per widget... konfabulator.. I don't know about. Hmm... a JavaScript engine? ::winces:: I'll try it though, maybe...

About Konfabulator...I know it sounds messy, but it's effective and not terribly resource-hoggy. And it's got all that aesthetic-prettiness thing going :-).

I don't know either. Adium (my IM client) handles AIM, Yahoo, MSN, etc all in one~ so it's all nicely combined onto one buddylist... It'll be the same for me, no matter what they do.

Well, I did notice some column linked from Macsurfer the other day noting that Google's looking for a couple Mac programmers.. whether that's for any specific purpose, or just to bolster their talent base is anybody's guess.
