A lot has been said about how to prevent rape.
Women should learn self-defense. Women should lock themselves in their houses after dark. Women shouldn't have long hair and women shouldn't wear short skirts. Women shouldn't leave drinks unattended. Fuck, they shouldn't dare to get drunk at all. And if they do, they have no case if they are raped while incapable of making a reasoned decision.
instead of that bullshit, how about:
if a woman is drunk, don't rape her.
if a woman is walking alone at night, don't rape her.
if a women is drugged and unconscious, don't rape her.
if a woman is wearing a short skirt, don't rape her.
if a woman is jogging in a park at 5 am, don't rape her.
if a woman looks like your ex-girlfriend you're still hung up on, don't rape her.
if a woman is asleep in her bed, don't rape her.
if a woman is asleep in your bed, don't rape her.
if a woman is doing her laundry, don't rape her.
if a woman is in a coma, don't rape her.
if a woman changes her mind in the middle of or about a particular activity, don't rape her.
if a woman has repeatedly refused a certain activity, don't rape her.
if a woman is not yet a woman, but a child, don't rape her.
if your girlfriend or wife is not in the mood, don't rape her.
if your step-daughter is watching tv, don't rape her.
if you break into a house and find a woman there, don't rape her.
if your friend thinks it's okay to rape someone, tell him it's not, and that he's not your friend.
if your "friend" tells you he raped someone, report him to the police.
if your frat-brother or another guy at the party tells you there's an unconscious woman upstairs and it's your turn, don't rape her, call the police and tell the guy he's a rapist.
tell your sons, god-sons, nephews, grandsons, sons of friends it's not okay to rape someone.
don't tell your women friends how to be safe and avoid rape.
don't imply that she could have avoided it if she'd only done/not done x.
don't imply that it's in any way her fault.
don't let silence imply agreement when someone tells you he "got some" with the drunk girl.
don't perpetuate a culture that tells you that you have no control over or responsibility for your actions. You can, too, help yourself.
If you agree, repost it. It's that important

That being said, I'd say it'd still be important to pick up some knowledge of self-defense though. If not just for the sake of having the knowledge, maybe it'll get you out of a pinch someday.
...granted, I have pretty little knowledge of self-defense. Will probably just scream like a girl, aim for the genitals, and run like crazy. Granted, that's what you're supposed to do, from what I've read and heard. At least the running part. :: nods::

Date: 2006-04-12 10:24 pm (UTC)Women shouldn't have long hair and women shouldn't wear short skirts How is long hair related to being raped? O.o
My defense would be screaming... you know how loud I am =D And then I'll probably throw a badly aimed punch or painless kick at them and then run for my life... On the way, I'll probably run into a telephone pole or something of the sort. Oh! Or I'll get run over by a car. Yeah. That's more likely =D especially if this is in NYC. lol
from a woman who lives in a city
Date: 2006-04-13 01:39 pm (UTC)The problem is not self-defense knowledge or lack of it. The best defense is not looking like a target. THATs the problem. If a chick is five-foot and has a black belt, she may be able to get out of the situation, assuming they don't come up on her from behind with a heavy object. If another chick, with no self-defense knowledge is walking with a guy who is six-ten who wouldn't hurt a fly, and would probably run away if they get attacked, is MUCH less likely to get attacked. Ironically, she is safer than the chick with the black belt. A woman should not have to make herself not look like a target. A woman should not be raped.
Thats what this is saying. Don't rape. there is never a reason to rape a person. A person never asks to raped. A person never wants to be raped. Women are just especially suseptable to being raped.
Furthermore, in many cities, they don't give a damn about screaming. In fact, some people take that as a sign where -not- to go.
Go for the eyes or the balls, or other soft fleshy bits. Bite and claw. If you're in heels, go for the toes, or take them off and use them as daggers.

Date: 2006-04-13 01:50 pm (UTC)They rape because it's kind of like... getting high. You feel exhilerated and yeah....
cites are badly polluted. That's all I have to say for that
Haha. heels and daggers. I'll attempt to knock them over and run for my life... lol
Re: from a woman who lives in a city
Date: 2006-04-13 05:04 pm (UTC)Rape is weird because some people say it's about the sex and other people say its about the power. I favour the second theory, because why else would people rape babies? They do and it's freaky. In any case, there's all sorts of places you can get free consentual sex, not mention sex-free ways to get sexual realise, so there really is no reason to rape, sex wise.
If you live in a city too long fresh air smells weird.
Re: from a woman who lives in a city
Date: 2006-04-13 05:17 pm (UTC)It's probably a combination of both power and sex. There is no reason to rape though. Yeah, I agree.
haha. fresh air smells weird. lol. Standing in NYC for just 5 minutes will make my eyes red and bleary ish.
