I'm on the way back to the USA from Taiwan - currently in the Tokyo airport, United International Lounge with free wifi and snacks and drinks, courtesy of my dad.
Shall have to write up details of travels in Taiwan soon, I guess, but highlights include getting lost in Taipei on my own, a hell lot of food, seeing cousins I haven't seen in years, brushing up on the terribly short list of Chinese words/characters that I recognize... and finding Taiwan to be annoying hot to the point where one gets sweaty just being outside. But otherwise, it was fun. Grandmother still remembers me. Grandfather is surprisingly mentally active despite his age - we had short conversations in English, Japanese, and Chinese.
The TPE Singapore airlines lounge is so much better than the United lounge here in Japan. There was much better food - stuff that actually looks like it could have been a meal.
Am sleepy. Should probably sleep for most of the remainder of the flight to match the PST time zone. Not really looking forward to going back to work, truth be told. Although I'll be glad to have internet access almost everywhere.
Need to buy Devil May Cry 4. Started playing it at a cousin's house, but didn't get a chance to get too far. Was shiny.
Also, I need a lighting system for my Kindle.

Date: 2009-09-14 09:41 am (UTC)United do seem to rather suck - most of the American ones do, come to think of it. =:P Virgin's good, and I was quite tickled to find Air Canada offered on-demand programming to everyone, plus quite a surprisingly good variety of films and shorts. I'd been all prepared to be reliant on the iPhone, but wound up just getting through Watchmen, Coraline, and several shorts instead. ^_^ BA's pretty decent as well, and I had no complaints with Malaysian, either.
Did you take photos/video?

Date: 2009-09-16 06:29 am (UTC)Mmm, Virgin (America - I haven't tried their Virgin Atlantic offering) is good. I'm usually quite happy to pay a tad bit extra to use them to get from the west coast to the east coast. If only they'd fly to Chicago... :\ (There's some sort of Gate dispute over at O'hare, from what I've read). Does Air Canada charge for their on-demand movies? I've never flown with them...
Did take photos, although most of it is of relatives. I think I have a video of the high speed rail (which is oh so awesome because it significantly cut down on travel time from the north to the south of the island), but that's pretty much it. Will upload... ehh... eventually. Easily distracted kitty that I am.
