Well, I would say that was the most direct indirect thing I've ever seen, personally.

I would say that the blacksmith ought to investigate said rumors beyond talking to the merchant, maybe talk to the baker directly, even. Because she is right that people do deserve a chance to speak for themselves. But the merchant deserves a hug, because she's a nifty person, whatever happens.
