While Lady goes for her knives, apparently I still go for things that secure... bikes, ladders, and people~

Ok, now that you're sufficiently disturbed, I didn't get that just so I could lock myself to a desk... it's to secure my bike, 'cause apparently there's lots of theft in UIUC. ::sighs:: Security's tight, both IRL and online... it's annoying. I'm going to have to be extra careful whenbreakingbending and bypassing restrictions on the school network.
Oh, yeah,
(And I was just kidding about going for things that secure umm.. things, really!)

Date: 2004-06-25 06:06 pm (UTC)Urgh, the joys of "network security", aka "protecting us from the clueless hordes who'll otherwise let the pipe get bogged down by ten thousand remotely-controlled zombie systems". The notion of an "internet license" is often joked about, but within "controlled" settings like a University, I wonder if it mightn't be a good thing, compelling those who'd otherwise clog things up to be aware of the risks of the net, especially if using a Windows variant. No clue, no connection.. wouldn't be so bad, surely. ^_^
How's the WLAN situation? That might be less problematic than fussing with a tethered connection, all in all.

Date: 2004-06-25 06:51 pm (UTC)Nah... those restrictions don't bother me that much. It's more of the bandwidth restrictions that they say they have in place... if you download(&upload?) a certain amount, they restrict bandwidth... Not conducive to downloading anime...
Mmmm, I dunno. Plan on getting a wireless computer to take advantage of the WLAN they have around some of the places, but that might be restricted as well? I may have to find an unrestricted computer, hack around a bit and install a proxy of some sort to give me unlimited bandwidth. We shall see.
