Keep forgetting to post this.

The amount of Mangas (eh. Mangas, right? Or should that be Manga? Or Mangi? :D) in bookstores these days is disturbing. And the amount of people who have become anime fans. ::sighs:: I'm going to need to find some other obsession soon... It's boring (and annoying) when there's shitloads of idiots who claim the same obsession as you do. Not that all anime lovers are idiots, but the good majority of incoming ones are.

Still, everyone has to start out as a newbie at some point, neh? So we should cut them a bit of slack. But just a bit. The rest... well... ::pulls out a large, pink 10-ton hammer of doom::

[ edit | This is not in response to meeting a new anime fanatic. This is in response to the amount of manga/graphic novels in stores (Borders, Waldenbooks (an extension of borders?), B&N) that I have stepped into. Two to three shelves full is more than there was when I first found anime.... ]

It's manga because that's how we write plurals of words borrowed from Japanese. (The language does have plurals, but it's done differently.)

I don't know about anime fandom in general, but there is a lot of manga these days.

I just wish I'd been on Hotline for its golden age of anime, rather than only its twilight. *sigh* BitTorrent's a superb method for distributing new fansubs, but getting older episodes can be quite hit and miss, even on IRC.

Mind if I whine a bit about the lack of new Twin Spica episodes? ^_^; It's not the fansub group's fault - like so many others, they rely on the good graces of free translators, and there's only so many of their ilk. Still, while that's paused for the moment, and Paranoia Agent's waiting stealthily in the wings, maybe it's time to look at a couple new series. On the light'n'fluffy side, Yumeria looked like it might be quite enjoyable, whilst I've heard good things about Monster. And I've still yet to go through Gravitation.. ! (Or the rest of Gasaraki, for that matter, though that's not helped by the subtitles not being too legible on a TV screen, and Bunny's not really up for FMV, at least under OS X.. could go into 9, but.. but.. that just doesn't feel right :)

Actually, on that front, do you use OS 9 these days, or are you X-only too? (I have 9 sitting on Bunny and Ocelot, but that's pretty much only for the old CapSure drivers, or running Cleaner 5 nicely)

BTW, do you read Sparkling Generation Valkyrie Yuuki? (It's been on a little enforced hiatus over the past few weeks, but normally, new episodes come out between one and two weeks apart)

My mom commented on that yesterday when we went to Waldenbooks. She started asking me questions about manga, most of which I didn't know how to answer. Very odd. I almost thought she was going to buy something there but she didn't.

Okay...so it's NOT just me noticing the increased obsession with anime around here...
Can anyone explain this new phenomenon? When did anime/manga spread beyond the realm of techiedorqs and their acquaintances?
Also - when anything becomes a fad, the majority of people who like it tend to be idiots, because the majority of people PERIOD are idiots.

No, not just you... and I dunno. I think the coverage in Time (an article, a long time ago-when we still had school) helped, as well as the increased anime showing on Cartoon Network.

And that sucks immensely. I liked my idiot-free manga and anime zone.
