SFO -> TPE!

Flying to Taiwan for two weeks.

Currently at NRT (Narita airport in Japan)

Quick bullet notes:
• Plane was a 787-8, ANA metal. 787 Dreamliner was pretty. If you've ever flown Virgin America, take their planes and add windows that adjust the amount of light that gets through with buttons. It kinda bothers me that it doesn't go completely opaque though.
• It felt like business class, but apparently it's actually, according to seatguru, the plane is only split into business and economy. I was in economy.
• The seats for economy don't actually recline. Instead, the actual seat slides forwards a bit. I don't like it.
• The toilets onboard 787 have bidets! And also a overactive flush sensor.
• I was so happy to see Wolf Children Ame and Yuki as one of the movie options onboard. I've been looking for a fansub / torrent, but hadn't found one. And not only was it available, it was subtitled in English!
• Also watched Bourne Legacy (meh) and Total Recall (interesting idea, but also kinda meh in the end)
• Leeching free wifi to download the latest pony episode. Yay pony! (Although I've been downloading in chunks between airports. Yay wget -c)

Totally jealous of getting to ride in a 787.... I have my bucket list of planes to ride in and it's one of them....

Ooh, that does sound rather good! Odd that the seats don't recline, but just shift location.. I'd be fine with them just being static, I think. It's always such a pain when the first thing the person in front does, once at altitude, is to drop the seat backwards, almost never bringing it back up until approaching landing.

I have to see Ame & Yuki. =:D I'd happily pay to do so, but you know how it goes - anime downloads are only sketchily available, and rarely on iTunes, let alone distributors' passion for restricting availability to specific countries. Given the director's previous works, and the sound of the story, this must be at least enjoyable. ^_^

Saw some of TR the other day - visually lush (indeed, rather constantly busy, unfortunately), but at the end, neither of us could really give a damn about any of the characters.

A flight to Taipei goes via Narita? Hm! Is that one of the airline's hubs, or is it fairly normal to have that kind of indirect routing? I'd've thought Taipei was easily busy enough for direct flights. But then, I suppose even SFO sees a plethora of indirect options - more than the direct ones, even.

We fly on United or star alliance partners, and that generally passes through Narita.

I don't know if Ame & Yuki's good enough to buy a physical copy of, especially with so much more I'd rather buy a copy of first (Summer Wars, Girl that lept through time, etc). Still, kinda considering it. If I do buy it ( / if I find it here), I'll see about ripping you a copy to enjoy.
