If you're on MacOS X 10.4, open up the terminal and type the following:
/usr/libexec/WaitingForLoginWindow

Tada. MacOS X loading...

To make it go away, run:
killall WaitingForLoginWindow

Why? Apparently it's just a placebo that just shows passing of time. It doesn't actually represent anything loading (damnit, ya? I'd rather see stuff actually _loading_. Then you could configure different startup items to say, "Loading Doomsday Weapons 1..", "Loading Sexy Female Henchmen...", "Loading Stupid Hero...", "Loading Munnies...")

Found out about this stuff here: http://www.afp548.com/article.php?story=20050620071558293

Quite amusing. Someone decided to write up a hack that would monitor the sudden motion sensor in the MacBook (which prevents damage to the hard drive if there's a sudden shift in movement), so swinging your laptop would invoke the lightsaber sound effects.

Called MacSaber, currently at 1.0 Beta.
